A Personal Letter from Deacon Dom

Dear Brother Deacons,

From the moment of my ordination thirty years ago, I have sought to give my whole life to the service of Christ and His Church. Through writing, teaching, and retreat work, I have tried to articulate the theology, spirituality, and pastoral practice of the diaconate so that each of us might live more deeply the mystery of our configuration to Christ the Servant. My book, Encountering Christ the Servant, reflects both my love for this vocation and my conviction that the diaconate has a vital role to play in shaping the Church of today and tomorrow.

At this stage of my life, I sense the Lord calling me to focus all of my efforts on advancing the diaconate, so that others may stand on my weak shoulders and carry forward this work with renewed strength. Many of you know me from my books, from articles in The Deacon magazine, or from retreats across the country. Now, through Diaconal Ministries, I hope to deepen and extend this mission—collaborating with fellow deacons, expanding theological and pastoral resources, and exploring new avenues such as online seminars and multimedia presentations.

This is a step of faith. In order to sustain my family and devote myself fully to this mission, I depend on the support of those who share this vision. Should you be so inclined, I ask first and foremost for your prayers—for me, for Diaconal Ministries, and for the future of the diaconate. If you are able, I would also ask you to consider making a financial contribution to help make this possible. Please note that Diaconal Ministries is not yet a non-profit organization and, therefore, cannot provide IRS charitable donation documentation at this time. I ask you to take this into consideration as you discern your support.

Whatever way you are able to join me—through prayer, encouragement, or financial assistance—please know of my sincere and heartfelt gratitude. Together, may we continue to bear witness to Christ the Servant and help the diaconate flourish for generations to come.

In Jesus and Mary,

Deacon Dom
