Living the Servant Mysteries

The Chair Reserved for You: Humility and the Heart of the Servant

Episode 05- August 2026 Posting

What if the greatest obstacle to becoming a holy deacon isn’t a lack of knowledge or generosity—but the quiet desire to be noticed? In this episode of Living the Servant Mysteries, we enter Jesus’ parable of the wedding feast and discover that humility is far more than choosing the lowest seat. It is the freedom to stop measuring ourselves against others, to let go of recognition and applause, and to joyfully receive whatever place Christ has prepared for us. For the deacon, this strikes at the very heart of our vocation: the stole isn’t a badge of honor, but a sign that we’ve been configured to Christ the Servant—the One who kneels, washes feet, embraces the Cross, and gives Himself away in love. In the end, the question isn’t whether we occupied a higher or lower place, but whether, through our preaching, service, and lives, we allowed Christ to be seen. The holiest place is simply the place where Christ wants us to be.
